Omo – Surma – Turkana – 16 Days

01. SUN. Arrival in Addis Ababa. Transfer to the chosen hotel. Have a free morning.
Afternoon (1400 hrs from the hotel) tour of the capital: visit the Ethnographic museum, view from Entoto mountain and the Mercato, biggest open air market in Africa.
Meals free. ON (overnight) hotel.

02. Start your fantastic trip by driving to the Wonchi lake with its amazing views and very relaxing nature. Have also a boat trip on the lake.
Lunch box on the way; dinner & ON camping (start your first camping and adventure, with a nice night under the skies !)

03. Drive to the Guraghe people and walk to one of their very interesting local village. You will spend the afternoon and be able to understand their way of life, working days at the village, culture, food and traditions. Overnight will be sleeping next to the village.

04. Walk back to the vehicle/s and then drive to Jimma, the Kaffa coffee region capital (from which the name of the coffee derives), and proceed to Bonga, visiting coffee and tea plantation. You will visit and walk among a plantation, participate to a traditional coffee ceremony & taste the real local organic coffee.

05. Visit Surma people. The Surma are famous for their traditions, women wearing plates into their lips and men different scarification all over their body. With luck you could find a donga: the Surma people stick fighting game.

06. Morning visit Surma people. Then drive to Omo National park, home of different animals as buffalos, elephants, and more.

06. Full day game drive and walk in the Omo National park, for unique flora & fauna.

07. Proceed to Nyangatom villages and visit this very interesting tribe. Drive then to the other very colorful Karo people and visit their villages; fantastic view from Kortcho village. Continue then to Turmi for the very colorful Hamer people, famous for the decorative hairstyles and ornaments.

08. MON. Full day visit Hamer people and with luck we try to visit the marriage ceremonies as bull jumping & Evangadi dances.
Being Monday visit the colorful market of Hamer, Karo & Dassanech people at Turmi
The Hamar are known for their unique custom of “bull jumping,” which initiates a boy into manhood. First, female relatives dance and invite whipping from men who have recently been initiated; this shows their support of the initiate, and their scars give them a right to demand his help in time of need. The boy must run back and forth twice across the backs of a row of bulls or castrated steers, and is ridiculed if he fails.

09. Early morning drive to Omorate, at Omo river bank, to visit the Dassanech people. Proceed then to the border and make necessary process. Enter into Kenya at Ileret border & proceed to Sibiloi National park. Late afternoon have a game drive.

10. Have an early morning game driver. Then drive to Loyangalani, at Turkana lake.

11. Admire the Turkana and Elmolo people and very interesting villages.

12. Cross Chelbi desert and reach Marsabit National park. Late afternoon if time permits have a game drive.

13. Visit Borena people (Kenya & Ethiopia Borena) and their villages. Reach Moyale border and enter into Ethiopia.

14. Visit ElSod crater (where form a marshy lake men extra salt for their cattle), the singing wells and then drive to Yirgalem

15. Drive to the Rift valley lakes of Awasa, Shala & Abyata National park and Langano; relax then at Langano lake, the only blamable of the Rift Valley in Ethiopia.

Dinner invited in a traditional restaurant with folkloristic dances. Then transfer airport for departure.
