That said, the region of Al-Ain and Al-Buraimi, altogether Tawam or Al-Buraimi Oasis, is of cultural and historical importance. It was where Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the United Arab Emirates, spent much of his life, at least since 1927, before becoming the Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in 1966. Al-Ain may also be the site of the oldest mosque in the country, in the premises of the Sheikh Khalifa Mosque.

Visit Al Jahili fort, Al Ain museum and more.

Day07. Al Fujairah
Drive 3 hrs to reach Al Fujairah. Fujairah is an emirate on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates, lying along the Gulf of Oman. It’s known for its beaches and the Hajar Mountains, which run through much of the emirate. In the south, the city of Fujairah is home to the massive Sheikh Zayed Mosque, with its towering white minarets. Overlooking the city is Fujairah Fort, a reconstructed 17th-century fortress featuring round and square towers.
Visit Fujairah Fort, AlBidya Mosque and Jazirat Al Ghubbah.
Jazirat Al Ghubbah: Snoopy Island, also called Snoopy Rock is a small rocky island off the northern coast of the Emirate of Fujairah on the Gulf of Oman. The Arabic name is derived from the coastal town of Al Aqah and is thus Jazirat al-‘Aqqa.
Al Aqah is the center of the UAE’s scuba diving scene. The main dive sites include two wrecks that were purposely sunk to create an artificial reef for divers and the car cemetery site (created during the 1980s when a series of cars and trucks were sunk to create an artificial reef for local fishermen). Marine life is abundant for divers, with turtles and black tip sharks regularly seen at some sites, as well as large shoals of fish ranging from trevally to parrotfish.
The Hajar Mountains slice through the inland northern region of the UAE. The scenery of jagged mountain peaks is a world away from what most people associate with the country and is prime road-trip territory. Officially different sections of the Hajar belong to Fujairah, Ras Al-Khaimah, and Sharjah emirates and even on a short drive trip between the west coast and the east, you’ll be able to take in a slither of the majestic mountain views.
Overnight in Al Fujairah
Day08. Hatta
Drive 1 hr to Hatta. From taming the rough terrain on a mountain bike to tackling the teal waters by kayak, Dubai’s mountain town of Hatta is the ideal spot for adventure.
There’s possibly no better way to experience the meandering pathways of hills, wadis and farmland in Hatta than from the back of a mountain bike. Multiple trails for beginner to advanced-level riders have been set up by the Hatta Mountain Bike Trail Centre, spanning across 52kms. The trails are free to ride and are self-guided with clear markers.
Longtime Dubai resident and mountain-biking enthusiast, Andy Whitaker, visits Hatta almost every weekend for his riding fix. He recommends starting from Dubai before dawn to get the most out of the experience.
“I would head to Hatta from Dubai at 5am, to aim to be riding by 6-6:30am. Ride for three hours, then take a dip in one of the pools along the Green trails,” he says.
Brave visitors can choose to tackle the trails on their own or join the many hobby groups, some of which meet for weekly rides. Give yourself two-three hours for a riding session, with stops to enjoy the lush surroundings.
The Hatta Mountain Bike Trail Centre remains closed over summer but the trails itself stay open for adventurers all through the year – just remember to carry all your essential supplies and plenty of water.
Surrounded by the Hajar Mountains, Hatta is covered in undulating peaks and troughs perfect for hiking. You can trek along the winding wadis at the foothills of the mountains, near the border with Oman. Here you’ll see the varied terrain, from sandy patches to sharp rocks.
A popular spot is behind the much-visited Hatta Dam, one of the largest water bodies in Hatta. Behind this you’ll come across rough rock, with stunning vantage points to take in the picturesque landscape, and some wildlife sightings. If you’re lucky you might even spot the elusive Arabian sand cat.
Hiking experiences can also be booked at the Hatta Wadi Hub, located close to the popular stay options by Meraas – Hatta Damani Lodges and Hatta Sedr Trailers.
